She comes in Colours

An excuse we give you for taking so long to finish Pivot, is perfection. Almost every sprite and piece of graphic has been redone at least twice, some even more times. Something that we both, while working on the game, have discovered, is how much colours matter.

Finding a decent colour scheme is simple; but finding the right one that really suits the stage requires a bit more effort. Kuler is a good place for inspiration. When we find a theme that we think look good, we try it by making a mock-up in Photoshop.

This is the first version of the new stage the Village. Notice how the colours don’t blend together nicely at all.

The village, as it originally looked like. Not very pleasing to the eye

As you can see, it has everything it needs, except one thing: style. It’s just not pleasing to the eye and looks bland. So what do we do, we head over to Kuler and pick out a couple of themes.

Both beats the original by far, but it’s still just not completely right. So after a bit of mucking around in Photoshop, we figure out that a combination of both is what we need.

The colours go well together and at the same time create a mood. Now the only thing that’s left is to put it all in motion in-game!

    Ooo, pretty.

When I’ve gotten a load of other crap out of the way, I’m going to start making a game, so this could be useful.

    Oh, wow, that’s crazy awesome.

I have a feeling that Pivot’s going to be a crazy popular GM game. I’m really excited.

I really hope that Pivot will be popular. Development has been going so smoothly lately, and really it’s because of Pete ‘officially’ working on it with myself. We’ve even got a super secret hidden folder somewhere on the server with our delicious changelog and stuff which get’s updated daily. ;D
